Easy Holiday
Lighting
Ever wish there were
more outlets or
outlets in different
locations as you’re
putting up interior
or exterior holiday
decorations? Keep
that thought in mind
when planning the
electrical portion
of your new home or
remodeling project.
A few outlets placed
in handy locations
can make a big
difference!
For
example,
lining
the
eves of your home
with
holiday lights will
be an easier task by
including outlets in
the soffitt. If you
take this idea one
step farther and
have these outlets
wired to a timer
switch in the
garage, they’ll even
turn themselves on
and off!
Do you plan to hang
a lighted garland
around the front
door? Place an
outlet nearby. What
about hanging
lighted wreaths on
the front pillars?
Include outlets,
located high up and
out of sight, on the
backside of these
columns. For lights
hung around the
inside of the back
porch, again, place
outlets high up for
convenience.
To avoid long
extension cords
running across the
yard, include a yard
outlet hidden in a
planting bed.
Have you thought
about where you plan
to place the
Christmas tree in
your new home? If
so, place an outlet
nearby,
and
don’t forget to add
outlets in and
around the
built-ins.
Installing one
outlet on top of the
built-in and having
it wired to a switch
makes it possible
and convenient to
light the top tree
in this picture.
Including an outlet
in the open shelving
portion of this
cabinetry allows the
homeowner to light
holiday decorations
during the season
and small,
cool-burning lamps
the rest of the
year.
Wishing you
a wonderful and
happy holiday
season!

To us, it [“Don’t Forget the Linen Closets”] is the most thorough guide to building a house, regardless of size, in the industry. Most importantly, it is geared toward the folks who will actually live in the house.
By following your guidelines, we are confident that we will have a far more functional home than if we had been on our own. Also, we know that we and the builder have saved thousands of dollars by avoiding rework and non-functional design flaws. In fact we have dubbed the book, “The Home Buyers’ Essential Handbook for Design and Construction in Less Than 50 Pages.”
